A sad air engulfed Olongoloto Sub Location, Dikirr, Narok County, Kenya, after lightning struck and killed a 45-year-old woman during a heavy evening downpour.

Police said the incident happened on Tuesday, January 2, as the area experienced heavy downpours.

The victim, Tekeret Ole Iserere, was coming from her residence and crossing to another house while it was raining when she was struck by lightning and died on the spot.

Her body was later moved to St. Joseph Mission Hospital Mortuary, pending an autopsy.

The region experiences such calamities amid calls to install harvesters to address the trend.

Last November, lightning struck a tree where three women were taking shelter during a heavy evening downpour, killing one on the spot while two others sustained injuries in Chesiliot area, Sotik sub-county in Bomet county.

Meanwhile, a five-year-old boy was electrocuted in an incident in Nyalenda, Kisumu County.

The incident happened on Tuesday afternoon as the boy was playing with other children in their compound, police and his family said.

The boy is said to have touched a live, naked wire that electrocuted him.

Shortly after the incident, neighbours rushed him to Kisumu County Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The body was moved to the same facility mortuary, awaiting a postmortem, police said.

These incidents were blamed on illegal power connections and the use of unqualified electricians.

There is a campaign to address the menace.

Also, the police are investigating an incident in which a 35-year-old man was found dead after a suspected suicide in Kahuro, Kangema, Muranga County.

The lifeless body of Kelvin Muhia Muchoki, aged 35, was found dangling on one of the roof rafters of his house in Rukui Village.

The police are yet to ascertain if he was killed by lightning or if it was a suicide or homicide.
