Residents in Rivers State learned of attacks on the homes of the two lawmakers ahead of Nigeria’s presidential and general elections today.

A former Commissioner of Water Resources was attacked at the home of Dr. Tamunosisi Jaja by thugs who reportedly threw dynamite into his home. One of the attackers was reportedly neutralised during the procedure.

The source claimed that one Destiny Iganibo, a staff member of the Rivers State Road Maintenance Agency and a member of the Grassroots Development Initiative (GDI), was a member of the group that broke into the home of the former Commissioner early on Friday and set dynamites off. Iganibo was apprehended by vigilant police officials and taken into custody.

The devastation of Charles Anyanwu’s Ulakwo home has also been bemoaned by Promise Nworgu, director of media and communications for the Charles Anyanwu Support Initiative.

During his ward-to-ward campaign tour, Nworgu’s campaign train was brutally attacked in Ulakwo Ward 13 one week prior to the attack, which happened early on Friday. Several people, including two police officers, suffered varying degrees of bullet wounds.

Despite the fact that the incident had been reported to the officials, the attackers returned to his home and threw explosives inside, causing property damage.

Nworgu, on the other hand, denounced the assault and urged security forces to identify, apprehend, and prosecute those responsible.

APC leader in Rivers State Dr. Dakuku Peterside also decried the rise in violent assaults on state politicians, particularly those who are seen as being opposed to the state government.

Peterside expressed concern about a number of incidents in which Rivers residents were assaulted, harassed, injured, and/or had their homes bombed by improvised explosive devices (IEDs) without a voice of protest from the state government.
