Reports indicate that Morocco has opened its first laboratory for the use of cannabis in industry and medicine on Monday.
The Cooperative Bio Cannat said in a statement that cannabis will be processed at the facility in the northwest city of Chefchaouen for usage in the food and pharmaceutical industries.
In October 2022, the lab allegedly got a license for the use of cannabis in business and medical.
Due to the many scientifically established benefits for pain relief, it was stated that the substance will be used in the food, industrial, medical, and paramedical industries.

“There will be agricultural experiments with some farmers in Chefchaouen in order to provide raw materials after having provided the seeds intended for this purpose,” it added.
The Interior Ministry reported in November of last year that measures to stop the illegal cannabis trade had caused cultivation to decline by almost 80%.
Morocco proposed a strategy for the industrial and medical use of cannabis last year. Also, a law legalising the drug’s usage in commerce and healthcare has been passed.
