Action Against Fake News (AAFN) proudly presented an esteemed award to News Central in recognition of its unwavering commitment to combating misinformation and promoting journalistic integrity. The award was presented to the Managing Director, Mr Kayode Akintemi and other Directors of News Central on January 23, 2025, at the station’s headquarters.
The AAFN delegation was led by the National President, Comrade Babatunde Ashafa along with other members of the organisation. Comrade Ashafa highlighted the long-standing reputation of the Managing Director and the News Central team. He commented that “truth remains the acid test of news” and also observed that in this part of the world, fake news was becoming a criminal enterprise and must be addressed.
Comrade Ashafa presented the Legacy Award to the Managing Director of News Central along with the innovative “Fake News Album” created by the organisation and a Subscriber booklet detailing the efforts of AAFN in implementing policies addressing fake news.
Mr Akintemi appreciated the Governing Council of AAFN and emphasised the importance of team efforts in creating opportunities and orchestrating success. He also reinstated News Central’s commitment to the fight against fake news.
The award highlights the critical role that media organisations play in the fight against fake news, particularly in today’s digital landscape where misinformation can spread rapidly.
The award signifies a collective effort to strengthen collaboration between media organisations and advocacy groups in addressing the challenges posed by fake news.
