The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and the Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA) are collaborating in response to the dynamite explosion that took place in a residential area of Sabon Pegi, Mashegu Local Government Area, Niger State.
The NEMA revealed this in a press release on Monday.
According to reports, the event happened at around 7:30 am on Sunday.
On Sunday, the Niger State Police Command verified that dynamites kept in residential premises were the source of the explosion.
One person, Fatima Sadauki, was killed by the explosion, according to a statement released by SP Wasiu Abiodun, the command spokeswoman. Six other people were injured and taken to General Hospital Kainji, New Bussa, for treatment.
He also disclosed that approximately twelve homes in the vicinity were impacted by the incident, resulting in substantial property damage.
In the meantime, NEMA has received notification of the situation and is working with NSEMA to offer an immediate response.
According to reports, a local artisan miner kept the detonated dynamite in the damaged flat he had rented for his employees. The property was damaged, and the incident had an impact on several residents.
“The Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA) and the NEMA Minna Operation Office are collaborating to respond to the issue in the meantime,” NEMA said.
