The Islamic State West Africa Province, ISWAP, and Boko Haram are reportedly planning to attack a number of states in the North-West, North-Central, and South-West on Tuesday, according to reports.
According to Intelligence gathered by security officials, ISWAP and Boko Haram intends to assault the Federal Capital Territory as well as the states of Lagos, Kaduna, Kogi, Katsina, and Zamfara.
A memo on Tuesday from the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps‘, NSCDC, headquarters informed state commands of the impending strikes.
The Security apparatus was increased in Abuja on Tuesday as a result of the warning to attack the states to thwart any potential attacks by ISWAP and Boko Haram.
This came after a captain, a lieutenant, and six troops were reportedly killed in a gunman attack on the elite Presidential Guards Brigade on the Bwari-Kubwa route.
The Nigerian Army and the Nigeria Police Force on Tuesday deployed soldiers and police officers in key areas throughout the FCT in an effort to thwart the ISWAP onslaught.
The Inspector-General of Police, Usman Baba, had directed the deployment of police troops and equipment to strategic areas of the FCT, according to the Force’s spokesman, Muyiwa Adejobi, who was speaking to reporters on Tuesday.
He clarified that in order to foil the planned attack, the IG also gave the Force Intelligence Bureau instructions to acquire intelligence.
Adejobi said, “We are not leaving any stone unturned to fortify the Federal Capital Territory and its environs. The IGP has ordered the additional deployment of assets to strategic areas of the FCT while the Force Intelligence Bureau has been charged to gather robust Intelligence.”
