The gubernatorial candidate for the Labour Party in Adamawa, Dr. Umar Mustapha Muqaddas, switched his allegiance to the All Progressives Congress (APC) just two days before the election.
Muqaddas made the announcement during a press briefing in Yola, urging his supporters to vote for the APC.
As a result of his defection, Muqaddas has dissolved his Labour Party structure in Adamawa and has pledged his support to the APC, whose presidential candidate is Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.
The gubernatorial candidate explained that he and his supporters had hoped that the LP would provide a progressive and visionary alternative to Nigerian politics, but were disappointed by the party’s leadership and structure, which he found to be as bad as the system they were trying to change.
He expressed frustration at being ignored and disrespected by the LP structure at both the national and state levels and claimed that other LP candidates had been similarly marginalised.
