The 2023 African U-21 Nations Women’s Volleyball Championship Zone 3 was won by Nigeria in Niamey, Niger Republic.

Nigeria won the title with a 3:0 (25-10, 25-15, 25-10) victory over Ghana in the finals on Sunday night.

The girls had earlier defeated Ghana, a local rival, 3-0 (25-11, 25-15, 25-8) in their opening game of the competition.

In their second game, they defeated the host nation of Niger 3-0 (25-4, 25-11, 25-4) to extend their winning streak.

With a 3-0 (25-15, 25-15, 25-9) victory over Benin Republic in their third match, the team also earned a rematch against Ghana in the championship.

Coach Rakiya Mohammed thanked God for the win in a post-game speech.

“We thank God because this is the first trophy that Nigeria has won at the youth level. I feel so happy.

The girls showed their worth, and despite the best efforts of the Ghanaians, we have now qualified for the world championship in Thailand.

Later today, the team is anticipated to arrive in Nigeria.
