The late Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Lekan Balogun, Alli Okunmade II, is scheduled to be buried today, Friday, March 15, 2024.
The beloved king, who reigned for two years, died at the age of 81 on Thursday evening at the University College Hospital in Ibadan, Oyo State, after a brief illness.
The burial arrangements were revealed by the deceased’s younger brother, Kola Balogun, who serves as Baba-Kekere Olubadan. According to a statement made by Oladele Ogunsola, the late Oba Balogun’s Personal Assistant (Media), the funeral would follow Islamic traditions and will be held at his ancestral home in Aliiwo, Ibadan.
Oba Lekan Balogun, a notable character, with a diverse background that includes a British-trained Ph.D., previous jobs as a University instructor, and a successful career in both the corporate and governmental sectors. His efforts went beyond his tenure as a monarch, spanning academia, business, and public service.
Oba Balogun, who is survived by his wives, children, and grandkids, has died, marking the end of an era in Ibadanland. His legacy, marked by a dedication to progress and tradition, will be honoured during today’s burial, which is expected to draw mourners from all around.
