The Nigerian government has launched the 10-for-10 Campaign, aiming to convert 10,000 commercial vehicles to run on Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) within 10 weeks.
The initiative, unveiled by the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative (PCNGI), commenced on January 16, 2025, and will run until March 31, 2025.
The goal of the campaign is to address rising fuel costs and environmental pollution by promoting greener, more sustainable transportation.
Through this programme, commercial vehicle operators in Abuja and Lagos will benefit from free CNG conversions, helping to reduce fuel expenses, improve air quality, and create a more efficient commute experience.
The PCNGI described this initiative as a golden chance for commercial vehicle operators to embrace the future of transportation, with reduced fuel costs and a cleaner environment.
This push for CNG-powered vehicles follows a successful precedent set in 2024 when over 100,000 vehicles in Nigeria were converted from petrol to CNG or bi-fuel systems.
In 2024, the number of CNG conversion centres grew significantly, from seven in 2023 to over 140, and the PCNGI is focused on expanding this network further.
The project has seen considerable investment, with over $200 million committed to CNG infrastructure development, resulting in thousands of new jobs.
This transformation is not only contributing to Nigeria’s energy transition but also helping to create economic opportunities, with plans for over 1,000 conversion centres nationwide.
Additionally, over 2,000 Nigerians are currently employed in the conversion industry, and more jobs are expected as the CNG initiative progresses.
