In response to the pressing threat of climate change, the Nigerian government emphasises the imperative of adopting a comprehensive strategy to promote sustainable and eco-friendly transportation solutions, aimed at mitigating environmental concerns within the nation.
Senator Said Alkali, Nigeria’s Minister of Transportation, conveyed this stance during the 18th National Council of Transportation (NCT) assembly, convened in Abeokuta, Ogun State, situated in the southwest region. Themed “Embracing Innovations and Technologies for Sustainable Transportation: Addressing the Energy Challenges,” the conference underscored the urgency of transformative measures.
Asserting the Ministry’s unwavering commitment to embracing practices conducive to both ecological preservation and economic prosperity, Senator Alkali highlighted the paramount importance of aligning the transportation sector with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Recognising the significant contribution of the transportation industry to environmental degradation, exacerbated by its heavy reliance on fossil fuels and limited access to alternative energy sources, the Minister emphasised the need for innovative interventions to alleviate the prevailing energy challenges.
Senator Alkali emphasised the role of recent global initiatives, such as the World Climate Action Summit (WCAS) at the 28th Conference of Parties (COP 28), where participating nations pledged to foster sustainability through accelerated innovation and widespread adoption of renewable energy, clean technology, and other eco-conscious alternatives.
