The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr. Benjamin Okezie Kalu, has distributed bags of rice, fertilizers, and cash gifts to support the people of his constituency.
Mr. Kalu thanked the constituents for their support and for not protesting against the government. “What is happening today is significant. People are coming to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu because they know he is the only president that is doing what others couldn’t do. He’s a man who has prioritized food insecurity. More people will join our party because they are seeing the light and they want to join our party. For 54 years, we were promised Reconciliation, Reconstruction and Rehabilitation, yet none was fulfilled. It was President Tinubu that remembered and signed the SEDC bill into law to develop the South East. We will continue to support him,” Mr. Kalu said.
During his visit to Item Ward A, comprising the villages of Apanu, Amaekpu, Amaeke, and Amaokwu, as well as Ward B in Item Community, Kalu expressed gratitude to the people for voting for him in the 2023 election. He distributed rice, fertilizers, and cash gifts to the youth, women, and men’s groups in the community, who welcomed him warmly.
Additionally, in Abia State, Mr. Kalu formally welcomed Dr. Cosmos Ndukwe, a former presidential aspirant on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), into the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). The event took place in Ward C, Akanu Item in Awuja Autonomous Community, Item, Bende local government area of Abia State, during Kalu’s tour of electoral wards in his Bende federal constituency.
Dr. Ndukwe, a grassroots politician in Abia State, has previously served as a councillor, vice chairman of Aba North local government area, Chief of Staff to former Governor T. A. Orji, several times as Commissioner, deputy speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, and presidential aspirant in the 2023 general election.
At the event, Kalu praised Ndukwe’s decision to join the APC, emphasising that the party, under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, is committed to developing the South East region. He recalled the signing of the South East Development Commission (SEDC) bill into law, highlighting President Tinubu’s achievements that previous Presidents could not accomplish for the region.
In a statement signed by Kalu’s Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Levinus Nwabughiogu, Kalu urged the people to continue supporting the APC administration, assuring them that the President will continue to do more for them.
In response, Dr. Ndukwe thanked the deputy speaker for personally receiving him in his Ward in Item. He stated that his decision to join the APC was to support President Tinubu’s efforts to develop the South East region and Nigeria as a whole.
