The Rivers State Police Command has apprehended ThankGod Ekwueme for selling his three children. The suspect, whose wife is deaf and dumb, sold the 5-year-old for N700,000, the 3-year-old for N350,000, and the day-old baby for N500,000.
According to the spokesperson of the command, SP, the arrest was made following credible information about the suspect’s illegal activities. The spokesperson disclosed this in a statement on Thursday, July 13, 2023.
During an interview with journalists, Ekwueme revealed that he was intercepted by OSPAC in his community of Omerelu, Ikwerre Local Government Area of the state when he was attempting to sell his newborn baby. The suspect confessed that he was subsequently handed over to the Elele Police Division and later transferred to the CP Monitoring unit.
Meanwhile, the mother-in-law of the suspect explained that the suspect had been deceiving her, claiming that her grandchildren died after childbirth. She further revealed that Ekwueme took advantage of her daughter’s disability (his wife being deaf and dumb) to carry out the despicable act of selling their children after they were born.
