Malawi’s Department of Disaster Management Affairs (Dodma) reported that the death toll resulting from Cyclone Freddy had doubled from 99 to 190 last night.
In a subsequent update today, Dodma stated that 584 people have been injured and 37 are still missing.

Efforts to provide relief assistance to affected and displaced households are ongoing, with the department, humanitarian partners, and councils working together.
Search and rescue operations are being led by the Malawi Defence Force, the Malawi Police Service, the Department of Marine, the Malawi Red Cross Society, and local community members.
