Nigeria’s National Census to Commence March 29

The 2023 national population and housing census in Nigeria has been scheduled for March 29 to April 1, 2023.

While addressing State House Correspondents on Friday, the Chairman of the National Population Council Chairman, National Population Commission, Nasir Kwarra said:

“By March 29 to April 2, our staff will be in the field enumerating people.”

Kwarra added that the tools to be deployed will also code buildings and landmass, detailing information such as location, landscapes, among others.

He also noted that non-Nigerians will equally be documented so long as they are in the country at the time of the exercise.

In the 2023 Appropriation Act, the Federal Government earmarked N40 Billion for the National Population.

A total of N10million was allocated for the national population and housing census, while the national population data bank,Nigerian population database management system geo-portal hosting of population website and web portal got N50 million.

The expansion of registration centres, registration of birth and death, and registration and training of AdHoc staff took N410million.

Census publicity and advocacy (communication, publicity, information, DNA enlightenment for population programmes, through print electronic media.) will gulp N120million while the sum of N25million was allocated for census research, documentation, and archiving.
