Veteran Nollywood Actor Emeka Ike has bared his mind, sharing his journey through a challenging phase marked by battles with depression, marital battles, and a career slump in the movie industry.
While speaking on the Rubbin’ Minds show anchored by Hero Daniels on Sunday on Channels TV, the popular actor said he has been absent from the screens for an extended period as a result of personal challenges during stormy times in his marriage and the industry’s shift from VCD to larger screens.
Ike said the changing movie landscape, impacted the demand for his talent and that of his several other veterans.
Emeka Ike’s marriage was dissolved by a Lagos Island Customary Court in 2015 over alleged incessant domestic violence, which added to the actor’s troubles.
“When you realise that they’re actually after you for who you are, you ask yourself, ‘What do I do next?’. I just kept doing the things I needed to do properly. I kept working on myself to be who I am now,” he said.
The actor also added that, while he was away from the limelight, he battled life-threatening situations including threats from murderers and armed men with no clear motivation.
Despite all his misfortunes, the seasoned actor has made a successful return to Nollywood, securing a role in Toyin Abraham’s upcoming movie, ‘Malaika.’
Ike attributed his return to a commitment to personal growth and persistence in the face of hardships.
