Ogun State governor, Dapo Abiodun has cast his vote in the ongoing local government election at Polling Unit 002, Ita Osanyin, Iperu Ward 3 in the Ikenne Local Government Area of the state.
Abiodun hailed the state’s Independent Electoral Commission for ensuring a peaceful and successful election.
Speaking with the press, he cited little logistic challenges but stated that election materials have been successfully distributed across the state.
“Let me first appreciate the OGSIEC for their level of preparedness and diligence to conduct free, fair, and credible polls.
“However, in any election, we can not rule out some logistics hiccups but by and large I have been informed that as of now, the election materials have reached every nook and cranny of the state and voting has commenced in earnest,” Abiodun explained.
He also commended voter turnout, noting that it reflects people’s confidence that their votes will align with the election results.
The governor has, nonetheless, called on the media to report objectively to avoid misleading the general public. Abiodun expressed gratitude to law enforcement agencies for maintaining peace and order, noting that, overall, the elections have been relatively calm.
Meanwhile, voting ended early in polling Unit 001, Ward 14, Abeokuta South.
News Central TV reports that one of the election observers who pled anonymity said the election in his unit was marred by irregularities such as a late start to voting, officials rushing out due to alleged threats, and election results written in pencil instead of ink.
An accountant, Musa Okedara, raised concerns over insufficient ballot papers at Unit 22, Ward 12, Abeokuta South polling unit, highlighting discrepancies with registered voters, pointing out issues that need urgent local government attention.
