Olamide Adedeji popularly known as Baddo, has released his 10th studio alnum, ”Carpe Diem”. This body of work was released on Thursday, 8th of October, 2020, in the early hours of the day. It was like a nuclear bomb was detonated at the heart of the music constituency of Twitter NG, as Olamide began to trend because of the success of the album.
This album is a follow up of Olamide’s ‘999 EP”, which was released early this year, January 2020. Throughout the entire 30 minutes that form 999 EP, Olamide evidently orchestrated an ambitious and well-meaning project.
Arguably the greatest Nigerian rapper ever, this Carpe Diem album cover exudes class, tradition, alternative vibes and colour in its cover art and the features on the album is enough to send Nigerian music lovers spiraling. Because of how talented Olamide is, and because of his success in the previoys years, Nigerians literally ran to unpack the goodies that Olamide had supposedly delivered.
What excited most people – especially Hip-Hop lovers – was the thought of a ‘proper Hip-Hop’ album by Olamide. This album is Olamide’s debut album on Empire, an American distribution company and record label.
Early this year, February, 2020, to be precise, Olamide disclosed a deal he sealed with Empire. The rapper act announced in an interview with a New York based radio, Afroflava radio that his album titled “Carpe Diem” will be released 8th of October 2020. In the interview, the multiple brand ambassador revealed that “Carpe Diem” is strictly a reflection of his current state of mind; also some touching parts of his journey in 2016/17, on why he could have quit music.
“Carpe Diem” features appearances from new wave Afrobeat star, Fireboy DML, Omah Lay, Peruzzi, Phyno, Bad boy Timz and so many other artistes. “Carpe Diem” should be highly anticipated.
‘Carpe Diem’ is a plea used to urge someone to make the most of the present time and give little thought to the future. This album feels excessively built in Olamide’s image and likeness. It exemplifies his strengths and weaknesses as a man and artist. On one hand, it positively showcases Olamide’s penchant to spotlight underground talent, his defiant vision to ‘succeed’ and his ambition to do something markedly different from other albums in his discography.
Olamide Adedeji (born 15 March 1989), popularly known as Olamide (but popularly called Olamide Baddo or BaddoSneh), is a Nigerian hip hop recording artist. He records in Yoruba, and English. In 2011, he released his debut studio album Rapsodi while signed to Coded Tunes. YBNL, his follow-up album, was released under his label imprint YBNL Nation. The album was supported by the singles “First of All”, “Voice of the Street”, “Stupid Love”, and “Ilefo Illuminati”. On 7 November 2013, he released his third studio album Baddest Guy Ever Liveth. The album’s singles include “Durosoke” and “Yemi My Lover”. On 17 July 2013, Olamide became the first Nigerian to sign an endorsement deal with Cîroc.
