The Ondo State Police Command has announced the arrest of eighteen suspected criminals involved in various criminal activities such as robbery, murder, kidnapping, cultism, and burglary in the state.
The police also said several vehicles were recovered from the suspects. According to the state Commissioner of Police, Abayomi Oladipo, the arrests were made following the command’s relentless efforts to rid the state of criminal elements.
One of the suspects, Babalola Daniel confessed to heinous crimes, including the murder of five individuals, including his friend, Opeyemi Oyelakin.
After killing his victims, Daniel reportedly stole their commercial motorcycles, which he later sold. Shockingly, he also engaged in ritual activities such as harvesting body parts from some victims and selling them to herbalists.
The police boss disclosed that further investigation revealed a gruesome pattern of crimes committed by the suspect across different locations, including Kogi State and Osun State.
The suspect had allegedly killed multiple motorcyclists, dismembered their bodies, and sold their motorcycles.
Moreover, the police arrested accomplices involved in receiving stolen items and producing fake documents for the illegal sale of motorcycles. Efforts to apprehend all involved parties, including the remaining suspect at large, are ongoing.
Babalola Daniel, who is presently in police custody, confessed to his crimes, admitting to killing five individuals and stealing their motorcycles. He detailed his modus operandi, stating that he would use force, including hitting victims with stones or sticks, during motorcycle thefts.
The captured suspects will soon face legal proceedings as they are prepared to be charged in court, the police commissioner confirmed.
