Turkish giants, Galatasaray had their African stars to thank after they beat rivals, Istanbul Basaksehir 2-1 to clinch the 2018-2019 Super Lig league title on Sunday.
Rijad Bajic’s struck in the 17th minute to put the visitors ahead at the Turk Telekom Stadium, but Fatih Terim’s charges staged a strong response in the second half.
Two minutes after the break, Algerian midfielder Sofian Feghouli scored the equaliser before Nigerian forward, Henry Onyekuru grabbed the match winner in the 67th minute.
Galatasaray have 69 points from 33 games, three points more than Istanbul Basaksehir with a game to go. However, the Turkish league is decided using the head-to-head record instead of goal difference if teams are tied.
DR Congo’s Christian Luyindama, Morocco’s Younes Belhanda, and Senegal’s Mbaye Diagne were also in action for the Lions who stretched their unbeaten run to 14 matches.
The win clinched a domestic double for Galatasaray after they beat Akhisarspor 3-1 to win the Turkish Cup last week.
