The Plateau State governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has approved contracts for constructing 55 new secondary schools across the State.
Mutfwang, demonstrating his unwavering commitment, made this known as he signed the contract papers in Jos on Wednesday.
The governor, with unwavering dedication, pointed out that the decision was part of his commitment to revamping and enhancing the education sector. He clarified that the projects will be carried out with the Adolescent Girls’ Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE), which the World Bank supports.
Mutfwang stressed that the projects were specifically aimed at empowering the girl child, highlighting that women’s education is crucial to the State’s development.
“These projects, involving the construction of 35 Junior and 20 senior secondary schools, are being implemented under the AGILE project, funded by the World Bank. They are a crucial investment in improving the learning environment for our children in the State.
“We will ensure that they meet the highest standards; our supervising mechanisms will be top-notch because we want to set a precedent with this initiative. We will do this so that when the World Bank team comes for evaluation, we will not be found wanting,” Mr Mutfwang said.
The State’s commissioner for secondary education, Mohammed Nyalun, expressed gratitude to the World Bank and the Nigerian government for their support in Plateau’s education sector.
He said the initiative is vital in ensuring that every child in the State has access to high-quality education in a favourable learning environment.
Shirinkpo Maina, the project coordinator of AGILE in Plateau, pointed out that the projects would establish the foundation for inclusive, high-quality education accessible to every child, regardless of their background.
