President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has appointed his son, Muhoozi Kainerugaba, as the new army commander of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces, UPDF.
Gen. Kainerugaba will now be responsible for the command, control, and administration of Uganda’s armed forces and reports to his father.
The outspoken general had already shown interest to vie for the presidency in 2026, in a plan to replace his father, who has ruled the East African nation for over than 37 years.
Museveni has been accused authoritarian rule and grooming his son Kainerugaba to take over the reigns of power, he has roundly denied such allegations.
Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba has been his father’s Senior Presidential Advisor in Charge of Special Operations.
