President Bola Tinubu will travel to Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, on Sunday, January 26, for the Africa Heads of State Energy Summit, scheduled for January 27-28, 2025. The summit, hosted by the Tanzanian government in partnership with the African Development Bank and the World Bank, aims to advance the “Mission 300” initiative, which seeks to provide electricity to 300 million people across Africa by 2030.
During the two-day event, African leaders, private sector stakeholders, development partners, and civil society organizations will discuss energy access, renewable energy adoption, energy efficiency, and the mobilisation of private sector investments to drive sustainable development.
On the first day, ministerial representatives will present national energy plans, called “energy compacts,” outlining how they aim to achieve universal energy access within five years. On the second day, heads of state will endorse the Dar es Salaam Energy Declaration, a framework that will guide the implementation of Mission 300.
President Tinubu is expected to deliver a national address, showcasing Nigeria’s commitment to universal energy access and its role in advancing clean and sustainable energy solutions. He will be accompanied by a high-profile delegation, including key government officials from the Ministry of Power, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Office of the President on Energy.
