The Rivers State House of Assembly has officially endorsed the selection of four commissioners put forward by Governor Siminialayi Fubara for a thorough evaluation. These individuals were part of the State Executive Council during the tenure of former Governor Nyesom Wike. The confirmed commissioners include Prof. Chinedum Mmon, who will be overseeing the Education portfolio, Prof. Zacheaus Adango, who will serve as the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Isaac Kamalu, responsible for the Finance department, and Mr. George Kyeli, who will be in charge of Works.
The House of Assembly itself is set to be dissolved on June 3, marking the end of its current session. Mr. Martins Amaehwule (PDP-Obio/Akpor 1), the Leader of the House of Assembly, emphasized the importance of approving these nominations. He highlighted the need to enable these four individuals to continue their commendable work in serving the state of Rivers.
In addition to endorsing the four commissioners nominated by Governor Siminialayi Fubara for screening, Mr. Martins Amaehwule (PDP-Obio/Akpor 1), the Leader of the House of Assembly, provided further insight into the reasoning behind this decision. Amaehwule emphasized that the members of the 9th House of Assembly held a firm belief in the retention of all former members of the State Executive Council under the leadership of former Governor Nyesom Wike. In response to the leader of the House of Assembly, Mr. Mmon, the Commissioner-designate for Education, expressed his vision for the ministry, which is to digitize its data and information. His goal is to ensure that comprehensive information about every school in the state, including its location, number of students, classes, and ages, among other details, is readily available. This focus on digitalisation, he noted is of paramount importance to him, and achieving this objective would bring him a sense of fulfillment.
