Samoa‘s head coach, Mahonri Schwalger, has resigned, the country’s rugby federation announced on Monday.
Schwalger, 46, had been suspended since September after facing charges of sexual misconduct involving a person under 16.
Lakapi Samoa president Sailele Malielegaoi praised Schwalger’s contributions to Samoan rugby, saying, “His leadership has been a key part of our journey.”
Appointed in April, the former Samoa hooker’s resignation comes as the nation’s rugby faces turmoil, including financial struggles that led to the cancellation of three Tests in November.
A search for a new head coach will begin immediately.
