A prominent Al-Shabaab leader was detained by Somali security forces in the neighboring Lower Shabelle province, which is located in Mogadishu.
The National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA), according to reports, revealed that army forces successfully seized one of Al-Shabaab’s top commanders on the basis of accurate intelligence, suggesting that he had held a number of various positions in the ranks of Al-Shabaab for 16 years.
After intensifying up operations against the movement’s fighters in parts of southern and central Somalia, the arrest followed.
Over the past few months, Somali troops have effectively reclaimed various districts in central Somalia from Al-Shabaab, which has claimed responsibility for numerous strikes that have resulted in the deaths of hundreds of civilians and security personnel.
