The largest single-train refinery in the world, the Dangote Refinery and Petrochemicals, will be officially opened on Monday at Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos, by President Muhammadu Buhari.

President Buhari would be joined by six other presidents at the historic occasion that is anticipated to have a favorable impact on Nigeria’s oil and gas industry.

Expected at the historic event, apart from international dignitaries, are the Presidents of Togo, Gnassingbé Eyadéma; Ghana’s Nana Akufo-Addo; President of Senegal, Macky Sall; President of Niger Republic, Mohamed Bazoum; President of Chad, Mahamat Déby; and a host of ambassadors

President Paul Kagame of Rwanda, who will not be physically present, will however present his goodwill message virtually.

The celebration is anticipated to be attended by Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the next president of Nigeria, who in 2002, while serving as governor of Lagos, established the free trade zone in Ibeju-Lekki, where the refinery is situated.

Aliko Dangote, the richest man in Africa, is promoting a petroleum refinery that would employ over 100,000 people and have a processing capacity of 650,000 barrels per day (bpd). The refinery is situated on 2,635 hectares of land in the Dangote Industries Free Zone in Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos.

The Dangote Petroleum Refinery’s commissioning is noteworthy since it marks the first time a refinery of this size constructed by a single person has been put into operation.
