Six people were killed after a roadside Mogadishu bomb blast that targeted a vehicle carrying Hormuud telecom workers in Somalia, officials said on Sunday. The explosion occurred in the Garasbaley neighbourhood, on the outskirts of the capital Mogadishu.

In a statement, Hormuud Telecom, the largest telecommunications operator in the country, confirmed its workers were killed in a “roadside bomb attack” while travelling from their office in Garasbaley.

While no group has yet claimed responsibility for this attack, terror group Al Shabaab has carried out similar bombings in the past.

The Horn of Africa country has a long history of insecurity with Al Shabaab chiefly responsible for most of the carnage the nation has experienced. It has since heightened attacks, since the government of Hassan Sheikh declared a full scale war on the group.
