Kiriku, a field commander of the Islamic State of West African Province, ISWAP, has reportedly been killed by a snake in Borno state, Northeast Nigeria.
Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency specialist who specialises in the Lake Chad region, claims that Kiriku passed just three days after being bitten by a snake.
He allegedly suffered the injury in one of ISWAP’s lairs in the Borno LGA of Damboa. Kiriku, who was reportedly hurt on Tuesday, passed away on Friday.
The ISWAP commander couldn’t get treatment, according to Zagazola Makama, which led to his demise.
Kiriku was active in the Timbuktu triangle’s Jiddari axis, a stronghold of Boko Haram and SWAP, before he was killed.
The Timbuktu triangle encompasses the Gujba LGA in Yobe state, as well as the Borno LGAs of Damboa, Jere, Kaga, and Konduga.
According to reports, Kiruku organised numerous assaults and ambushes in Borno against Operation Hadin Kai soldiers. Six ISWAP fighters are said to have been killed in Banki town by Operation Hadin Kai troops.
According to Zagazola Makama, the special forces worked with the civilian joint task force (CJTF) to kill the terrorists.
According to reports, they were assassinated on Thursday in an ambush along Bula Yobe and Darajamal Road in the Borno LGA of Bama. Improvised explosive devices (IEDs) were allegedly created and placed by the terrorists.
