In a surprise move, Manir Muhammad Dan Iya, the Deputy Governor of Sokoto State, has left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). A letter purporting the resignation of Dan Iya, has surfaced online, sparking reactions.
The Deputy Governor officially tendered his resignation in a letter to the PDP Chairman of Kware Ward, Kware Local Government Area of Sokoto State. The letter stated that his membership with the PDP was being withdrawn effective February 8, 2023.
This departure comes as a setback for the PDP, just 16 days before the February 25 Presidential election. Governor Aminu Tambuwal, who serves as the Director-General of the Presidential Campaign for Atiku Abubakar, is the party’s flagbearer in the election.
It is unclear what political party Dan Iya will join next, but sources suggest that he may be moving to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
President Buhari is expected to lead the Presidential rally of the APC in Sokoto on Thursday and present the party’s Presidential Candidate, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to the people of the state.
Updates to follow.
