South Africa’s Bafana Bafana will go head to head with Nigeria’s Super Eagles at the AFCON Semi-finals after edging out Cape Verde in a tough match that ended with a 2-1 victory after penalty shootout.

The two teams failed to score any goals in the allocated 120 minutes that ended in a 0-0 draw after extra time in the quarter-finals game.

However, the tensed post-match shootout saw South Africa’s Teboho Mokoena and Mothobi Mvala netting a goal each, while Cape Verde secured a single goal from Bryan Teixeira.

Bafana Bafana keeper Ronwen Williams saved the day by saving four penalties out of five, becoming an instant hero of the match.

Following the narrow win, South Africa moved to join Nigeria at the semi-finals; their first Africa Cup semi-final match since 2000.

The two teams will battle it out on Wednesday, February 7 for a spot at the finals.
