Gauteng police are offering a R100,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the gunmen responsible for the Soshanguve shack fire on June 2, where four people were killed and two girls, aged 4 and 7, were burned inside a shack.
Dennis Nyatsunga, also known as Ngobeni or Shumba, is wanted for the murder of four people in Soshanguve and Akasia. He was allegedly targeting the girls’ father, who was not home at the time of the incident.
Last week, police confirmed the arrest of one suspect in connection with these murders, which included two young girls.
“Nyatsunga/Ngobeni is originally from Mozambique, but he might still be in South Africa. He is reportedly using a fraudulent passport and asylum seeker papers. The suspect is short and dark in complexion,” said police spokesperson Lt-Col Mavela Masondo.
Nyatsunga is suspected of being part of a group that shot six people at a shebeen in the Changing Spot informal settlement, resulting in the deaths of a man and a woman, and severe injuries to four others. The group then fled to a nearby shack and set it on fire, killing the two girls inside.
Police urge anyone with information on the suspect’s whereabouts to contact Maj-Gen Mbuso Khumalo at 082 556 8642 or Lt-Col Andile Manyaki at 082 413 2141.
“He also faces charges of attempted murder and arson. The public is advised not to attempt to apprehend the suspect as he is considered armed and dangerous,” added Masondo.
