Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan has made significant changes in her Cabinet, removing Foreign Affairs Minister January Makamba and his Information, Communication, and Information Technology counterpart Nape Nnauye, the Acting Director of Presidential Communications, Sharifa Nyanga, said on Sunday.
Speculation has risen that their dismissals may be linked to alleged covert efforts to oppose President Hassan’s re-election campaign.
Mahmoud Thabit Kombo has been appointed a member of parliament and the new Foreign Affairs Minister. At the same time, Jerry Silaa will replace Nnauye as the new Information, Communication, and Information Technology Minister. Silaa was previously the Lands and Housing Minister.
Several other appointments were also made as President Hassan sought to strengthen her administration and tackle internal challenges in preparation for her re-election campaign.
