Teranga Lions of Senegal have emerged Africa’s number one team in FIFA ranking for the year 2020.
Senegal finished the year with 1558 points and are placed 20th in the world, ahead of every other African team on the ranking.
Tunisia, ranked 26th in the world, are second in Africa and have 1503 points for the year.
Algeria are third in Africa and 31st in the world with 1488 total points. Morocco and Nigeria are tied on 35th in the world and are 4th in the continent with 1474 points apiece.
Other countries in the top 10 in Africa are; Egypt, Cameroon, Ghana, Mali and Burkina Faso.
Eritrea is Africa’s worst-placed team at 205 in the world while Djibouti and Ethiopia rose by one place each from their previous rankings.
African players have continued to impress in Europe with Mohammed Salah, Sadio Mane and many others waxing strong across football leagues.
While the year didn’t have enough football activities due to COVID-19, it came with its surprises as countries like Equatorial Guinea and Burundi rose in stock.
