The Benue State government has reported three deaths among 12 suspected cases of Lassa fever within a single week.
Dr. Yanmar Ortese, Commissioner for Health and Human Services, shared this update on Wednesday.
He clarified that the deaths and cases remain classified as suspected, pending confirmation. According to Ortese, these incidents occurred in Okpokwu Local Government Area over the past week.
He further explained that 12 samples were collected from individuals who had close contact with the deceased. Until the test results are available, the cases will continue to be treated as suspected.
“No confirmed cases yet,” the Commissioner stressed.
Ortese also noted that the ministry’s emergency operations team responded swiftly by quarantining those affected.
