President Bola Tinubu has directed Dr Ibrahim Abubakar Kana, the newly appointed Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development, to prioritise the revival of the Nigeria Air project and the improvement of airport standards across the country.
Dr Kana revealed these instructions during his inaugural meeting with ministry staff and heads of aviation agencies in Abuja. He stated that the President’s mandate centres on two key objectives: establishing the national carrier, Nigeria Air, and ensuring Nigerian airports adhere to global standards.
“While receiving my deployment letter, I received very clear instructions, with two tasks to achieve within this period, by His Excellency, Mr. President, as well as the Head of Service of the Federation,” Kana said.
“One, to ensure that the Air Nigeria comes to be. Two, sanitise our airports across the country. All of us will agree that there is no better time to have an Air Nigeria than now,” he added.
Acknowledging the urgency of these goals, the Permanent Secretary affirmed his commitment to working alongside the Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo, to deliver the President’s “renewed hope” agenda and meet the expectations of Nigerians.
Dr Kana expressed confidence that the Nigeria Air project would be realised promptly, describing it as a critical step for the country. He also emphasised the need to upgrade airport facilities to align with international best practices, ensuring seamless and comfortable travel experiences for passengers.
“Our dream is to give birth to a national carrier within the administration of His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” Kana stated, adding that his team would intensify efforts to transform airports into efficient and welcoming transit hubs.
