Ukraine announced on Wednesday that it had sentenced a member of its military to 15 years in prison, accusing him of acting as a spy for Russia’s military intelligence service.
The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) stated that the serviceman, based in the Zhytomyr region in central Ukraine, had provided Moscow with information about Ukrainian military training sites, which were subsequently targeted in Russian airstrikes.
“The traitor was a mobilised member of the Armed Forces of Ukraine,” the SBU said in a statement issued on Wednesday, April 9, adding that the man had been detained last summer.

The SBU noted that the individual had drawn attention to himself by posting critical content about Ukraine on social media, leading to charges of high treason.
Since Russia invaded Ukraine in early 2022, Kyiv has initiated thousands of collaboration cases against individuals suspected of aiding the Russian invasion.
In contrast, Moscow frequently sentences individuals to long prison terms for allegedly undermining its military efforts or expressing dissent against the Russian government.
