Nigeria’s 2023 presidential election will not be postponed, according to the country’s election chief. Despite significant insecurity, including attacks on election officials, the head of Nigeria’s Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has stated that the presidential election next month will not be postponed.
Despite the hurdles, Mahmood Yakubu, speaking at London’s Chatham House think tank, claimed that INEC is well prepared to facilitate voting in Africa’s most populous nation.
“The commission is not contemplating, let alone planning, to postpone the 2023 general election,” he stated. “We are going ahead to conduct the election as scheduled.”
