William Ruto has ordered security agencies to deal firmly and decisively with bandits who reportedly killed 10 administration officers in Turkana and Pokot.
Ruto confirmed that he had received a detailed report on the incident and has given security agencies a nod to deal with those involved in the killings.
“Cattle rustling will stop na sio tafadhali,” Ruto said.
The attack led to the death of 11 people, including 10 security and administration officers in Turkana East. The officers were in pursuit of Pokot bandits who had raided a village in Turkana East and made away with livestock.
In a statement on Monday, September 26, Police spokesman Bruno Shioso said a contingent of police officers has been dispatched to the area to ensure the bandits are apprehended and brought to book.
“A multi-agency security operation has today been launched in the area to arrest the perpetrators, recover the stolen animals and firearms, and return normalcy to the area,” read part of the statement.
Shioso further condemned the act, affirming that such criminal tendencies shall not be condoned and that no stone shall be left unturned in the crackdown.
“Such acts of criminality and impunity shall not be tolerated and must be brought to an end at all costs. As such, bandits terrorizing innocent people have been put on notice,” he said.
At the same time, he appealed to the public to work in tandem with security agencies and provide any information regarding the whereabouts of the perpetrators.
At the recently concluded 77th UNGA, Kenyan President, William Ruto had made mention of Kenya’s commitment to finding lasting peace within and beyond its regions. He noted that Kenya’s participation in the UN security council is reason why the country has maintained peace and countered terrorist attacks and urged that this sort of synergy be capitalized on.
