In a meeting with Sihem Boughdiri Nemsia, acting Minister of Economy, Finance and Investment Support, World Bank Vice President for the Middle East and North Africa Region, Ferid Belhaj has restated the Bank’s commitment to supporting Tunisia in its democratic process and economic priorities.
The meeting was held in the presence of the Director of the World Bank office for the Maghreb, the Director of the World Bank office in Tunisia, the Director of the International Finance Corporation (IFC) office in Tunisia, and executives from the World Bank and the Ministry.
Belhaj stressed that the WB is monitoring the evolution of the situation in Tunisia and the important messages on the improvement of governance and the fight against corruption, adding that Tunisia has the capacities and opportunities to overcome this situation.
He said the WB will provide the required support for the implementation of socio-economic reforms, including social protection programmes and projects sustaining rural women.
Nemsia called on Tunisia’s partners, first and foremost the WB, to continue to provide their support at a higher and more flexible pace, so as to take into account the national priorities and the exceptional situation the country is going through while implementing its planned reforms.
