Popular Haiti-born American singer Wyclef Jean has reportedly raised $25 million to fund music publishing services in Africa and other emerging markets.

This his to be executed through his recently established music publishing and distribution company, Carnival World Music Group.

Speaking to Forbes in December 2019, the Grammy award winner claimed this initiative will help empower African creatives, giving them access to publishing and distribution resources needed to promote their music and earn deserved royalties.

“Carnival World Music Group aims to ensure that artists in developing countries have publishing and distribution support they need

“The demand for music from Africa and other developing regions is growing, and these creatives deserve to be part of the international marketplace.

“There is a need for them to have open access to global publishing and distribution options that protect their rights and ensure that they are fairly paid. This initiative not only introduces and launches new talent but helps creatives around the world thrive in their careers.”

And just yesterday, in what might just be Wyclef’s first signing to this African-centric outfit, the singer sought and found the young Ghanaian rap sensation whose freestyle video has been making rounds on the internet.

The video of the Accra Academy High School rapping over Fat Joe’s 2006 classic ‘Make It Rain’ instrumental with a rapid-fire flow broke the internet two days ago.  And ever since, people have been amazed by his raw talents with some already comparing him to Ghana’s rap legend, Sarkodie.

About a day after the video broke the internet, an impressed Wyclef openly declared his interest in the rapper on Twitter.  “Carnival world music Group is looking for this kid he got talent !!!!!”

According to Wyclef, Carnival World Music Group would launch later this year in search of new talent. He also revealed that distribution and publishing for the outfit would be handled by New York-based Heads Music.
