The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has announced the deployment of 28,300 tactical operatives to enhance security and protect critical national assets across the country during the festive season.
This directive was issued by the Commandant General of the Corps, Dr Ahmed Abubakar Audi, according to a statement released on Friday by the Corps’ spokesman, Afolabi Babawale.
Dr Audi instructed Zonal and State Commandants to intensify their security measures and improve intelligence operations to prevent any acts of vandalism or criminal activities targeting key infrastructure.
He emphasised that safeguarding critical national assets remains a core responsibility of the NSCDC and warned that negligence in this mandate would not be tolerated.
The Commandant General highlighted the tendency for criminal activities to increase during festive periods and urged officers to adopt a proactive approach.
“The NSCDC remains the lead agency in the protection of Critical National Assets and Infrastructure across the federation, this is our statutory mandate and must not be comprised; all hands must be on deck as we approach end of the year.
“You are aware that criminally minded persons often take advantage of festive seasons to perpetrate their nefarious activities. I therefore charge you to brighten your eagle eyes and reinvigorate your Intelligence tactics as this would make you more proactive than reactive,” the statement quoted him as saying.
The operatives deployed for this operation were selected from various specialised units, including intelligence, anti-vandalism teams, and tactical squads.
Dr Audi assured the public that all identified high-risk areas, including recreational centres, religious venues, motor parks, amusement parks, shopping malls, and other public spaces, would be under strict surveillance.
