Zimbabwean president and leader of the ruling ZANU-PF, Emmerson Mnangagwa has cast his vote in the general elections where about 6.5 million people are expected to turn out.
Mnangagwa voted along with the First Lady Amai Dr Auxillia Mnangagwa at Sherwood Park Primary School in Kwekwe City.
In a related development, Opposition leader Nelson Chamisa was cheered by supporters chanting his name as he arrived to vote in Kuwadzana, a suburban part of Harare. He foresees victory, he however stated that the ruling ZANU-PF would seek to deny him his victory.
“Funny games or no funny games, our victory is certain. We are going to continue to insist on a credible election and making sure we have a legitimate result out of this election,” he said.
The government and the electoral commission have consistently promised that the election would be free and fair.
Eleven frontline candidates are participating in the presidential polls, with the incumbent 80-year-old president and main opposition leader, 45-year-old Nelson Chamisa, who leads the Citizen’s Coalition for Change (CCC) dominating the polls.
