A 95-year-old Kenyan man married his 90-year-old longtime sweetheart over the weekend, six decades after they first met, local media reported on Monday.
Ibrahim Mbogo and Tabitha Wangui exchanged vows in a church ceremony on Sunday, according to Citizen Digital.
“We met and fell in love in 1960, do you hear?” Mbogo said outside the church in Mukurweini, about three hours northeast of Nairobi.
“We discussed it and decided a white wedding would be wonderful. While we are legally married according to our Kikuyu customs, we wanted a church wedding as Christians.”
The groom wore a smart grey suit and silver tie, while his bride donned a white hat and a cream brocade jacket over a white outfit.
When asked about their secret to a long-lasting relationship, Wangui advised, “Women, you must respect your husbands. If you do that, you will live as we have. Don’t do anything wrong, and when you do, just apologize and seek forgiveness.”
