Ruben Amorim has stated that both he and Manchester United’s underperforming players must prove co-owner Jim Ratcliffe wrong following the billionaire’s harsh assessment of the squad.
United are currently struggling in 14th place in the Premier League, having been knocked out of both domestic cup competitions.
Ratcliffe was critical of the squad’s performance, particularly pointing fingers at players such as Hojlund, Andre Onana, Jadon Sancho, and Antony, calling some “not good enough” and “probably overpaid.”
In response, Amorim acknowledged that the team, including himself, is underperforming but is determined to turn things around, starting with Thursday’s crucial Europa League clash against Real Sociedad.

“I think if we are being honest, everybody—me, all the players—are underperforming this season, so we can always change that,” said Amorim. “The focus is to change his mind and to change all the people’s minds.”
Amorim emphasised that the squad has taken Ratcliffe’s comments in stride, stating that results on the pitch will be the ultimate response.
With 11 players potentially missing for the upcoming match, the Europa League remains United’s best chance for European qualification.
He also stressed the importance of tomorrow’s match, highlighting the need for more energy to finish the season positively.
Despite United’s struggles, Amorim retains the support of Ratcliffe, who continues to back the manager’s efforts to turn things around at Old Trafford.
