Adekunle Kosoko, known professionally as Adekunle Gold, is a Nigerian highlife singer, songwriter and graphic designer. He attained fame following the release of 2015 hit single “Sade”, a highlife cover of One Direction’s “Story of My Life”. In 2015, he signed a record deal with YBNL Nation and released his debut studio album Gold, which debuted at number 7 on the Billboard World Albums chart. Gold was preceded by the release of three singles: “Sade”, “Orente” and “Pick Up”. Adekunle Gold revealed to Nigerian Entertainment Today that prior to signing with YBNL, he designed the label’s official logo and completed other designs for Lil Kesh, Viktoh and Olamide.
Adekunle was born into the Kosoko royal family of Lagos State, Nigeria. He holds a Higher National Diploma in Arts and Design from Lagos State Polytechnic. He was once dubbed the “King of Photoshop” after posting an edited photoshop image of him hugging Tiwa Savage on social media platforms. He has since then gotten several nominations and won several awards like the 2015 Nigerian Entertainment Award (NEA) best new act award, 2016 NEA best song awards, 2016 HEADIES Best alternative song award, 2017 City people entertainment awards for Album of the year amidst many others.
The 33 year Afrobeat star, speaking exclusively to Miriam Osei Agyemang, host of 3FM’s Urban Blend, the singer described Ghanaian highlife artiste Bisa Kdei as an outstanding and versatile artist who is underrated in Ghana.
He said, “My number one guy will always be Bisa Kdei, You guys need to protect Bisa Kdei, he is a national treasure. I think he is the best; I have worked with him on two songs and it was really a great feeling to work with him.”
Ronald Kwaku Dei Appiah better known by his stage name Bisa Kdei is a Ghanaian native solo singer and record producer from Eastern Region.
The 34-year-old singer is the first Ghanaian artiste to break into the limelight with a movie soundtrack.
Musically, Bisa Kdei has had successful collaborations with top musicians in Ghana, Africa and the World at large. Some of these Ghanaian musicians Bisa Kdei has worked with include Sarkodie, D-Black, Efya, Obrafour, Kwaw Kese, M.anifest, Stonebwoy, Medikal, Becca, E.L, R2Bees, Samini, Irene Logan, Kofi Nti, DeeVS, Keche, Lighter, Patoranking, Reekado Banks, Lola Rae, Tach-Noir, JRio, Adekunle Gold and others.
Bisa Kdei self-produced some of these collaborations from his studio; Chingam by Sarkodie One of Your Own by Efya, Pimpinaa by Obrafour, etc Bisa Kdei has cited Nana Ampadu, J.A. Adofo, Dr. Paa Bobo, Daddy Lumba, Nana Acheampong and others as his musical inspirations.
Kdei has stated that he hopes to transform lives not just in Africa, but the rest of the world and above all, to raise the flag of Ghana and be one of the strong pillars people can think of.
Adekunle Gold who has in the past collaborated with Bisa Kdei on his track “Adiza” is currently promoting AG Baby, a single from his Afro Pop Vol 1 album.
Adekunle Gold has also recently welcomed a baby girl with popular singer wife, Simi.
