Iconic British Singer Tina Turner Passes Away at 83

American Singer Tina Turner has died at the age of 83.

Turner made a name for herself with soul classics and pop hits like ‘What’s Love Got to Do With It’ and ‘Nutbush City Limits’.

The music superstar had suffered a number of health issues in recent years including cancer, a stroke and kidney failure.

She came into prominence in the 1960s alongside her husband Ike Turner whom she later divorced after years of abuse.

She was born in Tennessee into a sharecropping family. Her first major journey into music was when she joined the backup singers for her husband’s band, The Kings of Rhythm.

Later, she went on to be the lead singer for the band.

Together with Ike Turner, they enjoyed commercial success with Fool in Love and It’s Gonna Work Out Fine. Both songs made the US charts in the early 60s.

She wrote a memoir in 2018, ‘My Love Story’ which detailed the trauma she suffered throughout her relationship with her ex-husband, Ike.

She also had stints in acting. In 1985, Turner starred in the film Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome.

Despite suffering abuse, Turner bounced back and rebuilt her career and became one of the biggest pop and rock stars of the 80s and 90s.
