The Enugu State government has launched the first-of-its-kind, modern computerised vehicle inspection service centre.
Governor Peter Mbah, represented by the Commissioner for Transport, Dr Obi Ozor, urged all vehicle owners and transporters to ensure their vehicles obtain roadworthiness certificates to mitigate accidents.
He said the vehicle inspection facility is a significant stride in the commitment of his administration to “ensure road safety, environmental protection, and the overall well-being of the citizens.”
He further remarked that the facility symbolises a new chapter in transportation safety and efficiency in Enugu State, affirming it as evidence of his administration’s commitment to modernising state infrastructure and enhancing the quality of life for its residents.
He enthused further, “The centre is equipped with cutting-edge technology designed to provide comprehensive and accurate inspections of vehicles,” expressing optimism that the initiative will not only “reduce the incidence of road accidents caused by faulty vehicles but also cut down on harmful emissions, contributing to a healthier environment.”
Motorists were advised against using the roads if their vehicles had not undergone inspection. Private vehicle owners are required to undergo the inspection test annually, while commercial vehicles undergo it bi-annually.
The Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps in Enugu, Corps Commander Sokumbi Adeyemi, highlighted that the effective utilisation of the facility would decrease the presence of mechanically deficient vehicles on the road, and he urged vehicle owners to endorse the initiative.
Mr Francis Ede, the secretary of the Association of Mass Transport Operators in Enugu State, emphasised that the AMTO must seize the opportunity to maximise the facility’s usage.
