April 22 is commemorated globally as Earth Day.
Earth day is celebrated annually.
The year 2021 marks the 51st anniversary of the annual celebration.
The event which was first observed on April 22, 1970, aims to “build the world’s largest environmental movement to drive transformative change for people and the planet. During the world’s first Earth day, no less than 20 million took to the streets to protest environmental degradation.
A theme is usually selected to celebrate annually. This year’s theme tagged ‘Restore Our Earth’ focuses on natural processes, emerging green technologies, and innovative thinking that can restore the world’s ecosystems.
#EarthDay2021 has been trending globally on Twitter with interesting tweets backing it up.

According to earthday.org, this year’s theme rejects the notion that mitigation or adaptation are the only ways to address climate change.
Earthday.org says “… it is up to each and every one of us to Restore Our Earth not just because we care about the natural world, but because we live on it. We all need a healthy Earth to support our jobs, livelihoods, health & survival, and happiness. A healthy planet is not an option — it is a necessity.”
