Kanye Ye West has reshuffled his legal team ahead of the hearing that will determine if Kim Kardashian will be declared legally single.
Divorce attorney Chris Melcher confirmed on Tuesday that he is no longer representing the rapper, with attorney Samantha Spector stepping in to represent West.
The change comes after Ye filed an objection to Kardashian’s most recent filing to expedite her divorce from the rapper.
The reality TV star urged a US court to speed up the process, saying it would help her estranged husband accept the relationship is over.
“”I very much desire to be divorced,” Kardashian wrote in a declaration filed to a Los Angeles court last week.
“I have asked Kanye to keep our divorce private, but he has not done so.”
Kardashian, who is dating Saturday Night Live actor Pete Davidson, also spoke in the documents about the rapper’s social media attacks on her and her boyfriend.
“Mr West has disseminated on social media the parties’ private communications and misinformation about personal family matters and co-parenting, which has caused emotional distress.”
The reality TV star, who filed for divorce from the rapper in February 2021, has lodged new paperwork asking for a judge to declare her single as soon as possible. In the new documents, obtained by TMZ, Kim stated, “I very much desire to be divorced”. She added that while she has tried to keep their divorce proceedings private.
West then fired back with his own declaration, saying that the mother of his four children has no evidence to corroborate her claims.
Kardashian filed for divorce last year after months of press reports about marital strife. Ye has very publicly fought the separation, imploring Kardashian to reconcile.
The hearing is scheduled to take place on Wednesday.
